Summer Solstice - Mocktail Recipe for Pitta Season

Introduction

Summer solstice takes place on June 21st. This is when the day is the longest and night is the shortest in the northern hemisphere. Depending on where you live, this may be the time of year that you feel your most vibrant and energetic, or perhaps a bit overheated and restless. In Ayurveda, summer is pitta season: hot, intense, sharp and active. Like fire itself, having too much pitta can be a good thing - it's creative fuel; it helps you get things done. But excess pitta can manifest as heat in the body: think red skin, burning sensations in your stomach or intestines, or hot flashes.

Ingredients:

  • 1.5 oz coconut water

  • 1.0 oz coconut milk

  • 0.75 oz maple syrup

  • 1/4 lime (fresh)

  • Mint leaves (fresh)

  • Soda Water (optional)

Instructions:

Add 1/4 lime to the bottom of a tall glass. Muddle (crush using a muddler or wooden spoon) with mint leaves (as much or little as you prefer) until you have extracted as much juice from the lime as possible. Add rest of ingredients and shake well. Strain into a chilled glass, top with soda water and garnish with mint sprigs if desired.

Summer Solstice - Mocktail Recipe for Pitta Season

Mocktails are non-alcoholic drinks that are great alternatives to alcoholic drinks. They're made with non-alcoholic ingredients, and they can be a great way to stay hydrated during the summer months.

This Summer Solstice mocktail is perfect for pitta season. It has the flavors of your favorite coconut mojito, but it's alcohol free! It's also very refreshing, so we suggest you make it when you need a little pick me up on a hot day.

coconut water

  • Coconut water is a natural electrolyte, which means it helps to flush out toxins and replenish your body's mineral balance. It also aids in digestion by stimulating enzymes that break down food, helping you feel less bloated after meals.

  • Coconut water is an anti-inflammatory agent, making it helpful for people with inflammatory diseases like Crohn's disease or irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

  • The vitamins and minerals found in coconut water have antioxidant properties that help to fight free radicals inside the body; these free radicals can cause cells to age prematurely and damage DNA.

  • Coconut water has hydrating effects on the skin because of its high moisture content—this makes it especially beneficial during summer months when we tend to lose more moisture from our bodies through sweat or heat exhaustion.

coconut milk

  • The coconut milk is good for excess pitta dosha due to its sweet taste!

  • Coconut milk contains healthy fats and protein which will help digest your food better so that you feel fuller quicker after eating.

  • It also contains fiber which improves digestion by helping move waste through the digestive tract faster thereby reducing constipation problems such as bloating or gas.

maple syrup

  • Maple syrup is a great sweetener for Pitta. It's not as high on the glycemic index as sugar, and contains minerals like zinc, calcium, iron and manganese that are beneficial to the body.

lime

  • Lime helps digest fats, so this drink is perfect for Pitta season when Pitta dosha is aggravated by too much heat and pitta aggravates itself by eating too much spicy food!

mint leaves

  • Mint leaves can be used in a variety of dishes, including Indian food, Asian food, drinks and desserts.

  • Mint leaves are said to have a positive effect on digestion and also aid with nausea and vomiting.

Soda water (optional)

  • Soda water is carbonated water. It can be used to add a little fizz to your drink and is a great way to add a little extra flavor to a mocktail or other beverage.

  • Soda water is light and airy which aids excess pitta dosha in the body by cooling things down in the body and aiding digestion.

Conclusion

We wish you a happy Summer Solstice! Celebrate in a healthy way by drinking this delightful mocktail.
